Delicious new Bento box meals

Ever been to a working lunch that was more ‘lunch’ than ‘working’?

Perhaps the food took too long to arrive. Or maybe it took ages for the messy plates to be cleared. There must be a better way…

At Lane End’s conference venues there is – Bento box lunches. Neat, elegant lunch boxes packed with delicious and healthy options, all in their own handy little compartments.

And when you’ve finished eating, all you do is pop the lid back on the box – so no more messy plates cluttering your conference meeting rooms while you’re trying to work.

No wonder new Bento box lunches are proving to be so popular at our conference centres!

We got the idea from Japan where Bento box meals trace their history back to the 12th century. Think of them as the Japanese equivalent of India’s Tiffin box lunches.

Bento culture was widespread during Japan’s Edo period (1603-1867). Travellers would carry meals of specially prepared food in woven bamboo boxes.

And the practice is still popular today – testament to what a great idea it was all those centuries ago.

The last three decades have seen Bento meals flourish again in Japan. They’re ideal as quick, tasty and nutritious lunches for the country’s busy workers and schoolchildren.

Ask about our great new Bento box lunches when you book your conference venue at Lane End.
